What really concerns hoteliers

The silent Cost centre below the water’s surface.

If you don’t cover your pool, you lose more than just heat. It’s not the cost of setting it up that adds up — it’s what disappears from the exposed water surface at night.

Evaporation

The biggest hidden cost

Most of the heat from the pool is lost not through the walls, but through evaporation. Every litre that evaporates into the air takes heating energy with it — every night and on every day the pool is closed.

The Reality of Indoor Swimming Pools

The RLT system: an energy guzzler

Evaporation releases moisture into the air, so the RLT system has to work round the clock to counteract this. A covered pool takes a significant strain off the system — allowing you to save on ventilation costs a second time.

Lime & fresh water

The efficiency killer

Every litre that evaporates is replaced by fresh water — and with it comes limescale. This builds up on heating elements and heat exchangers, reducing the system’s efficiency.

Industrial optics

Reputational risk at the pool

Standard covers look as though they’ve been taken from a public outdoor swimming pool — and don’t go with natural stone, oak or your high-quality spa facilities. That’s exactly what your guests notice in their review photos.

Safety & Liability

The issue that is never openly discussed

If a child walks towards an uncovered swimming pool, it is too late to be discussing liability. Hotels have a duty of care — a certified pool cover is part of your safety plan.

Unclear invoice

Investment without reliable figures

In family-run guesthouses and 3*–4* hotels, the owner sits at the table with the guests and asks: ‘How much does it cost, and when will it pay for itself?’ A nice brochure isn’t much help in that regard.

Rolltor

Protects the pool area from intruders and the weather — offering significantly better protection against break-ins than a sliding glass door, as well as better insulation between the indoor pool and the outdoor area.

Stainless steel or plastic
Burglary protection · more robust than glass
Improved thermal separation
Weather apron + winter outfit

Hubanlage

Completely recessed, completely out of sight. A hydraulic system retracts the roller mechanism into a shaft next to the pool — when the pool is in use, it disappears flush with the floor.

What you should know, before you ring.

The majority of a swimming pool’s heating costs are due to evaporation from the open water surface. A closed cover prevents precisely this loss; in an indoor swimming pool, it also reduces the load on the RLT system. The solar version heats the water passively. We will calculate the specific savings based on your data.

Mini Cover for boutique hotels with a focus on value for money; Design Cover PVC & PVC Solar as the standard choice for most 3*–5* hotels; Design Cover PC & PC Solar for daylight pools and architectural projects. For vertical partitioning and retractable systems: Rolltor and Hubanlage.

PVC is the standard material for hotel pool covers, even in 5* resorts — reliable, NF-certified and temperature-resistant. Polycarbonate is more expensive, has a higher temperature resistance and is more transparent; the extra cost is justified where the architectural context demands it.

Yes. Design Cover PVC is also available in a solar version: the transparent top profile creates a greenhouse effect and passively heats the water using solar radiation — solar heat gain without any premium material surcharge. Please note: In very hot regions, we advise against using PVC Solar and recommend the PC range — polycarbonate is significantly more heat-resistant.

At current energy prices, this is usually within a few years — depending on the size of the pool, heating costs and the number of days it’s open. We’ll work this out for you on a case-by-case basis. Even if the honest answer is ‘wait another year’, we’ll tell you as it is.

This depends on the size of the pool, the model, the retraction mechanism and any bespoke solutions. During a personal consultation, we will provide you with a specific price range for your home — free of charge and with no obligation.

Our profiles are NF- and TÜV-certified and can safely support the weight of a falling child or a walking adult — a key element of your duty of care. However, a cover does not exempt you from your duty of supervision; please also include a handrail or a coping edge in your plans.

Yes. Open interfaces integrate modern building management systems (BMS/EMS). For hotels without the BMS, we offer a streamlined standalone control system — same mechanics, same reliability.

That’s exactly where we start. Every cover is made to order — even for curved lines, staircases or overflow channels. The material is cut to the millimetre using the CNC in Bad Tölz.

In practical terms, there are virtually no limits. We manufacture every cover as a bespoke piece in Bad Tölz — from small spa pools to large-format ones. We have already produced pools measuring up to 22 × 50 m; for special spans or geometries, our development department will design a solution tailored to your pool.

A specialist hospitality service team offering a rapid response in the DACH area. Multi-year maintenance, scheduled to coincide with your seasonal closure, ensuring that no guest encounters a closed wellness floor.

As an owner-managed family business that has been manufacturing in Bad Tölz since 1983, we guarantee long-term availability of replacement parts for all functional components. Authorised partners can access spare parts via our dealer portal.

Hospitality Contact

Not a one-size-fits-all solution. We’ll let you know if it’s not (yet) worth it.

Free of charge and with no obligation: we’ll take details of your boiler, heating costs and design preferences. We’ll then work out how much you’ll save and which options really make sense.

Whether you’re making decisions as the owner or sitting around the table with your project planner or design practice — Tanja and Frank speak your language.
