What really concerns hoteliers — and how we respond

The silent cost centre
beneath the water surface.

Leaving the pool uncovered loses more than heat — in the architecture, the indoor climate and the building services. What gets expensive is not the installation, but what disappears from the open water surface every night.

What you feel today
Evaporation — the biggest invisible item on your pool heating bill
Most of the pool heat escapes not through the walls but through evaporation. Every litre that disappears into the air takes heating energy with it. A light breeze accelerates the effect. Without a cover you pay for it every night and on every closing day.
Indoor-pool reality — the air-handling unit as a second energy drain
In an indoor pool the problem doubles: evaporation drives humidity into the air, and the air-handling unit has to counteract it around the clock. A covered pool relieves it noticeably — you save a second time on ventilation.
Limescale and fresh water — the silent efficiency killer
Every evaporated litre is replaced with fresh water — and fresh water brings limescale. It settles on heating elements and heat exchangers and lowers the efficiency of the system. Less evaporation means less limescale load on your technology.
Industrial look at the spa pool — the reputational risk no one puts on the agenda
Standard covers look like they belong in a public lido — they do not match natural stone, oak or exposed concrete. A visible cover is part of the spa architecture. Or it breaks the picture — and guests see it in review photos.
Safety and liability — the point that is never openly discussed
When a child walks towards an open pool, it is too late for liability discussions. Hotels carry a legal duty of care — a certified cover is part of the safety concept, not a comfort feature.
Investment with an unclear calculation — the classic in the mid-market
Not every property has an asset manager. In family-run guesthouses and 3- to 4-star wellness hotels the owner sits at the table and asks: what does it cost, and when does it pay off? A model price list does not help. You need the calculation for your pool.
Rollo Solar responds
One manufactory, three profile lines — the right answer for every hotel size
A bio-hotel with a sauna pool needs a different solution than a 5-star resort with a wellness architect. That is why we produce three profile lines — from the Mini Cover as the economical entry line, through Design Cover PVC & PVC Solar in carbon-metallic anthracite, to the polycarbonate profile PC & PC Solar with solar absorber — plus special solutions for particular tasks.
Your savings calculation — based on your data, not an Excel template
In the consultation we record your pool data, heating costs and opening days. From this we calculate what you save and when the cover pays for itself. Clear figures, an honest answer — even when that answer is "wait another year".
Made-to-measure — millimetre-precise instead of standard goods with gaps
Mass-produced covers rarely fit exactly — thermal bridges form at the edges and let heat escape. We make every cover as a one-off: millimetre-precise, welded end caps, chlorine-resistant stainless steel. The insulation performance the profile promises — not what is left after three years.
Tested safety — NF- and TÜV-certified products
Our profiles are NF- and TÜV-certified and safely bear the weight of a falling child or a walking adult. A documented argument in insurance negotiations — from family wellness to resort pool.
A specialised service team — coordinated with your closing time
Active internationally, with rapid response in the DACH region. Multi-year maintenance — scheduled around your closing time so no guest ever finds a wellness floor closed. For resort chains: one contact, one spec, one service contract across all sites.
Compatible with your building services — today and tomorrow
Controls with open interfaces to building management systems. Weather connection closes automatically in a storm. Seasonal switching programmes without daily intervention. For properties without a BMS: a lean standard control, same quality.
Two worlds — one manufacturer who speaks both languages

Boutique hotel or large operation?
We listen before we recommend.

An owner-run wellness hotel thinks differently than an international resort chain. Both meet the same manufactory here — but two different worlds of consultation. Which is yours?

Boutique and wellness hotels — owner-run

Family guesthouse, mountain hotel, organic wellness, boutique resort. The owner at the table — alone or with an interior designer. Decisions are personal, advice must be on equal terms. In the end it is not the corporate slide deck that counts, but honest guidance.

  • A savings calculation, not a table: clear figures for your heating costs, in your region
  • Spa aesthetics preserved: profiles in carbon-metallic anthracite that match oak, natural stone and exposed concrete
  • A direct line to the manufactory: no hotline, no anonymous corporate structure
  • A factory visit in Bad Tölz: those who invest for the next generation want to see who makes it

4-star-superior to 5-star resorts and international hotel chains

Wellness resort, international chain, resort developer. Decisions made by a team of director, technical manager, asset manager and specialist planner. Standardisation, operational reliability, sustainability reporting and BMS integration are not selling points — they are the requirement.

  • One spec for several properties: a standardised solution, uniform maintenance, one contact
  • BMS and weather connection: open interfaces for modern building management systems
  • Tested safety: NF- and TÜV-certified, insurance-compliant, audit-proof
  • Energy and sustainability arguments: a noticeable reduction in ongoing pool heating costs, robust for sustainability reporting

€€

Maximum insulation, elegant form. 4-chamber hollow profile, NF- and TÜV-certified, welded end caps instead of glued. The standard choice of most wellness hotels. Special solutions for hotels & wellness — when standard is not enough

Two answers to special challenges.

Vertical pool partitioning with burglary protection and better insulation than a sliding glass door. A fully retractable roll-up unit that disappears into the floor without any visible cladding. When your concept demands more than the three profile lines.

Rolltor with weather skirt · vertical pool partitioning in the indoor pool
Vertical pool partitioning · indoor-pool complexes · burglary protection
Rolltor

Protects the pool area from uninvited guests and the weather — with significantly better burglary protection than a sliding glass door and noticeably better insulation between the indoor pool and the outdoors.

  • Stainless steel or plastic
  • Burglary protection · sturdier than a sliding glass door
  • Better thermal separation
  • Weather skirt + winter combination with PVC curtain
First choice: indoor-pool complexes · burglary protection + thermal separation
Rolltor specification
Rollo Solar lift system · hydraulically extended roll-up unit at the hotel pool
Fully retractable roll-up unit · premium spa · no visible cladding
Lift system

Fully recessed. Completely invisible. Hydraulics sink the roll-up unit into a shaft beside the pool — during bathing it disappears flush into the floor. Unlike below-floor or above-floor systems: no visible cladding. The shaft top can be matched with tiles, lawn, a wooden deck or natural stone.

  • Recessed flush with the floor · no cladding needed
  • Fully automatic · hydraulic drive
  • Heated shaft · anti-icing protection
  • World-first hydraulic cover · in-house development
First choice: premium spa · architecture pools with no visible technology

What you want to know before you call.

Everyday questions — from hotel owners, directors, technical managers and spa managers. Direct answers, without a marketing veil.

How much energy does a hotel pool cover really save?

Most of the pool heating costs are not lost through the walls — they evaporate from the open water surface. A closed cover blocks exactly this phase transition, and with it the largest energy item. In an indoor pool a second effect is added: less humidity in the hall air noticeably relieves the air-handling system. The solar variant goes one step further: the transparent top profile creates a greenhouse effect and heats the water passively through sunlight — without any additional heating. We calculate the concrete saving for your property on your own data in the consultation.

Which product line is right for our property?

It depends on budget priority, architectural ambition and pool context. Mini Cover is the entry recommendation for boutique hotels and family guesthouses with a clear price focus. Design Cover PVC & PVC Solar is the standard choice of most 3- to 5-star properties: robust, NF-tested, welded end caps, reliably amortising — the solar variant in carbon-metallic anthracite is the most-chosen premium look for 5-star resorts. Design Cover PC & PC Solar in polycarbonate is the premium choice for daylight pools, indoor pools with a lighting concept and architecture projects that specify PC; the PC Solar variant combines polycarbonate material with passive solar gain — the top of the range. For vertical pool partitioning and fully retractable roll-up units we offer Rolltor and lift system as special solutions.

PVC or polycarbonate — what is the real difference?

PVC is the standard material for hotel pool covers — even in 5-star resorts. The vast majority of hospitality projects run on PVC, for spa pools in a solar version with a carbon-metallic finish. Why? PVC is reliable, NF-tested, temperature-resistant and the right technical answer for most wellness pools. Polycarbonate is more expensive, more temperature-resistant, more transparent and easier to clean — it justifies the extra investment where the architectural context calls for it: daylight pools, indoor pools with skylights, architecture projects that specify PC. We only sell PC then.

Is there a solar option for PVC as well?

Yes. Design Cover PVC is also available as a solar variant: a transparent top profile creates a greenhouse effect and heats the water passively through sunlight. An economically sensible solar option for properties that want solar heat gain without a premium material surcharge.

When does the investment pay off?

At current energy prices your investment usually pays off within a few years — depending on pool size, heating costs and opening days. We calculate this individually for your property and show you clear figures that you and your team can review at leisure. Even when the honest answer is "wait another year" — that is what we will tell you.

What does a hotel pool cover cost?

Hospitality projects are individual — the cost depends on pool size, line, roll-up unit and special solutions. Boutique hotels and family guesthouses with the Mini Cover start in a manageable range. Standard wellness houses with Design Cover PVC sit in the middle. 5-star spa pools in carbon-metallic anthracite with a premium look are correspondingly higher. In a personal consultation we give you the concrete range for your property — free, without obligation and with a note on possible subsidies.

The investment is high — when has it paid for itself out of ongoing operations?

A hotel pool cover is not a pure purchase but a noticeable reduction of your ongoing operating costs. The annual heating-cost saving amortises the investment in most cases within a few years — after that the cover runs into positive cash flow for your property. We show you this in the savings calculation on your own data: what you spend on pool heating per year today, what you save tomorrow, and when the point is reached at which the investment has paid for itself.

We already have a pool cover — is it worth switching?

Often yes — and usually more than the hotelier suspects. Profile technology has advanced considerably over the last ten years. Older foil covers or glued slat profiles often have micro-cracks, leaking end caps or thermal bridges at the edges through which heat escapes unnoticed at night. We inspect your existing system and tell you honestly whether a complete replacement is needed or whether a targeted upgrade — new profiles on the existing roll-up unit — is the economically right answer.

Large corporate suppliers seem cheaper. What justifies the price of a manufactory?

Mass-production profiles are made for standard pools in standard sizes. Your pool is rarely standard. Even small deviations between profile and pool geometry lead to thermal bridges at the edge — exactly where the cover should be doing its job. The result: you pay for a profile that insulates on paper but only partially in practice. We make every cover in Bad Tölz as a one-off, millimetre-precise to your pool. That way you get the insulation performance the profile promises — and not what is left after three years of gaps forming. The price difference amortises out of that very difference.

What about safety and liability at the hotel pool?

Our profiles are NF- and TÜV-certified and safely bear the weight of a falling child or a walking adult. For hotels that means: a documented argument in insurance negotiations and a clear building block in the safety concept for your duty of care — from family wellness to trophy resort.

Can the control be integrated into our building management system?

Yes. Our controls have open interfaces and can be integrated into modern building management systems (BMS/EMS) — your facility engineers and external specialist planners know the protocols. The weather connection closes the cover automatically when a storm approaches. Seasonal switching programmes run without daily intervention. For hotels without a BMS we offer a lean standalone control — same mechanics, same reliability, less interface complexity.

What warranties are there on material and mechanics?

Hotel pools mean a chlorine or salt-water atmosphere, UV exposure, continuous operation. Our profiles are made of UV-stabilised high-performance plastics, with shafts and fittings of chlorine-resistant stainless steel. We give a 5-year warranty on Design Cover PC and 3 years each on Design Cover PVC and Mini Cover — well above the usual industry standard of 2 years. Plus: all PC profiles come with TriEX coating and increased UV protection as standard — anti-algae and clarity over their service life.

Our pool has unusual dimensions or a free-form shape — no problem?

Exactly where standard goods stop is where we start. We make every cover individually — including for curved lines, integrated stairs, overflow channels or organic free-forms. The millimetre-precise cutting is done by CNC production in Bad Tölz. For very large spans or special geometries our own development department steps in and engineers a solution tailored to your pool.

What about hail protection and hail classes?

Hail classes are standardised test values for resistance to hailstones. PVC profiles (Mini Cover and Design Cover PVC) are tested as hail-resistant — the standard for DACH. Polycarbonate profiles (Design Cover PC) are structurally more resilient and can be classified accordingly higher. Which hail class is relevant for your insurance concept we clarify in the technical discussion and provide the corresponding certification per profile and colour.

Which well-known hotels have chosen Rollo Solar?

Schloss Elmau Luxury Spa Retreat & Cultural Hideaway · FORESTIS Dolomites · Rosewood Schloss Fuschl · The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg · Trofana Royal Superior Resort · Bio- und Wellnessresort Stanglwirt · Quellenhof Luxury Resort Passeier · Naturhotel Forsthofgut · Cavallino Bianco Family Spa Grand Hotel · Falkensteiner Hotel Kronplatz · Alpenroyal Grand Hotel Dolomites · Alpenhotel Hubertus Mountain Refugio · Son Bunyola Hotel & Villas · Bendinat Urban Country Club — plus 250 more hotels and resorts in Germany, Austria, South Tyrol, Switzerland and the Mediterranean. We name names, because houses that make no compromises on this question make none on their references either.

How does service work during ongoing hotel operations?

A specialised hospitality service team with an international presence — fast response time in the DACH region, internationally via certified partners. Multi-year maintenance contracts with annual inspection, scheduled around your seasonal closing time so no guest ever finds a wellness floor closed. For resort chains: a central contact for maintenance, spare parts and multi-site support.

How does a typical hospitality project run — and does installation disrupt our guest operations?

Step 1 — consultation (free): we record pool data, usage, heating costs and architecture — by phone or video.

Step 2 — savings calculation: clear figures on what you save, what it costs and which options make sense. Material recommendation and colour samples in the package.

Step 3 — site visit: on-site measurement, architecture briefing, bespoke constructions are recorded.

Step 4 — firm quote: with binding delivery and installation dates.

Step 5 — production and installation: manufactory production in Bad Tölz. The installation itself is highly standardised and short on site — we schedule it for your low season or planned maintenance closure. Wellness operations resume immediately afterwards with significantly lower heating costs.

Will spare-parts supply still be secured in ten years?

As an owner-run family business that has manufactured in Bad Tölz since 1983, we guarantee long-term reorder security on all functional components. Trade partners and facility engineers access spare parts and technical documentation via our dealer portal. We do not deliver and disappear — we remain your contact throughout the entire service life of your system.

Are there subsidies for pool-cover investments?

Energy-efficiency modernisations can be eligible for funding depending on the hotel location and the context of the measures — usually in connection with heating optimisation or energy-related refurbishment. In a personal consultation we check which options are realistic for your property and discuss the current programme landscape in your country with you.
